* Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year and it takes place in the month of Tishri.
* Tishri is the first month of the Jewish calendar and means "Beginning".
* Rosh Hashanah commemorates the anniversary of creation and is a day in which the whole world is judged for the coming year. It is a time of restricted rejoicing because celebrations are muted in acknowledgment of the great judgement taking place.
* It is customary for the observance to take place at the beginning of nightfall on the day before Rosh Hashanah.
* During Rash Hashanah it is also customary to eat foods, during the evening meals, that symbolize sweetness, blessings and abundance.
* The Shofar is one of the most visual symbols of Rosh Hashanah. It is used to awaken the heart of every Jew no matter how old to repentance and a closer relationship to God.
Anagrams: In a given amount of time, see which player can come up with the most words formed from the letters in "Rosh Hashanah". Use pencils and paper; no letter may be used more times than it appears in "Rosh Hashanah". This game may be played with other Jewish words as well.
PASS THE YARMULKES: The players are in 2 circles. One player in each circle has a yarmulke on his/her head. The object is to pass the hat round the circle.
