* Mardi Gras, which is a carnival, is celebrated all over the world. It is most popular in New Orleans and Brazil.
* Mardi Gras is French for fat Tuesday (mardi = Tuesday and gras = fat).
* In the middle ages the day before Lent people would sacrifice a fatten ox for a carnival feast.
* Mardi Gras is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
* It is a holiday originating from ancient pagan traditions that were Christianized by the Catholic Church.
* The first historical evidence of Mardi Gras traditions in America dates to 1699 by French explorers near the Mississippi River, about 60 miles south of present day New Orleans.
* The Carnival season is a Twelfth Night feast of the Epiphany.
* According to Christian beliefs, the Epiphany is the day that the three kings, or Wise Men, visited the Christ Child.
* Huges parades take place where people wear costumes and masks. Merrymakers dance and make music in the street. Krewes or organizations build floats and throw beads and other shinny, sparkly items to crowds of people.
THERE'S MANY A SLIP BETWEEN A CUP AND A LIP: The leader says: "Put a chair on its fore legs on the floor. The back and the hind legs are parallel to the ground. Put a slice of bread on the top of the back, kneel in the cross-beam between the hind legs, take the back with your hands and try to bend your head to the slice of bread and grab it with the mouth. For this you need much skill. While bending the head you must move your body back, otherwise your body's center of gravity will be before the seat of the chair, the chair will tip over and the slice of bread will fall down.
PAPER ARROW: For this activity you need a paper plane. It's better to play this game when it's windless. The players are divided into 2 teams. Draw a line on the ground. The first player who is going to throw the plane stands on it. The player of the second team throws the plane from the place where it landed. He/she throws the plane in the opposite direction. The next player of the first team throws the plane in the opposite direction from the place where it landed. So the players of 2 teams take their turns in throwing the plane in the opposite directions. If after the final throw the plane landed at the line, it means that both teams threw the plane equally. If the plane landed far off the line in the direction in which one of the teams threw the plane, this team wins the game.
