Lobsterfest Party Planning
The Lobsterfest celebration is a great way to enjoy the beach during a warm summer day and with the right party planning you can guarantee it goes off without a hitch. The guests will enjoy the party more if you get real lobster, crab, and clams for the event. Even better if you can get permission to dig a fire pit on the beach to bake the food in during the course of the day.
The use of a fire pit to cook food isn't a new practice. It's popular in many types of party celebrations held on the beach, clam bakes in particular. That doesn't mean you can't use it to cook lobster though.
Early on the day of the party dig a pit and start a large fire in it. Once the fire burns down you can place the seafood over the coals. It's traditional put down a layer of wet straw on top of the coal. Then, place the food on top of that, wrapped in wet grape or banana leaves. You can also place the food in wide shallow pans with foil or a metal lid instead. The food is covered by another layer of wet straw and the sand from the pit is filled in over top that. This is left to slow cook and steam during the course of the day. By evening it should be ready to eat. Those in charge of party planning will want to plan this out well in advance.
Invite the guests to the event depending on how long you want the guests to hang out at the party. Be advised that guests will show up hungry, so if you still have a few hours before the main course you'll want to have something the can nosh on in the meantime. |
