Gymnastics Travel Ideas
An Olympic sport that has its own hall of fame and so if you love Gymnastics this is a place to visit, that place is Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The sport will take center stage once more next year so there is time to get those party supplies ready with plenty of time to spare. There one will find plenty of sites to visit and learn about the history of this city and much more. Starting with the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame that is dedicated to those who have contributed and achieved so much in artistic gymnastics. What brought this particular hall of fame to Oklahoma City, well the answer to that lies in the history books going back first to the founding of the IGHOF in 1972. At which point the foundation failed to gain traction with only one member and thus it was disbanded. A little history about the host city start with nicknames such as OKC and the 405 for example. OKC is both the largest city in the state of Oklahoma and its capital as well, plus is 31st in ranking for population in the United States. Area attractions include such things as Tinker Air Force Base, National Cowboy & Heritage Museum and the Hall of Great Western Performers. In contrast to the idea of the western expansion and cowboy history, in 2009 construction began on the The American Indian Cultural Center and Museum. Each of these are a part of the history of the city from its found back during the great land grab in 1889 and grew to have a population over 10,000 within hours of its founding. The city’s history has been marred by a home grown terror attack in 1995 with the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The current incarnation of the museum was found in the mid eighties and initially started out in Oceanside California, by 1997 the IGHOF moved to Oklahoma City and into its current location.
